The Point in Time count in Wyoming took place on January 24th, 2024.  This is an annual project that takes place nationwide during the last 10 days of January. Check back often for information about county leveling planning and volunteer opportunities.

What is the Sheltered Point in Time and Housing Inventory Counts?
The Sheltered PIT and HIC is an annual event that allows our communities to take stock of the residential space available for members of the community who are experiencing homelessness. By counting all persons who were in a homeless, residential project on the night of the event, we are also able to measure the demographics of those served by homeless services on the date of this state-wide event.

When is the Sheltered PIT and HIC Count?
This year’s PIT and HIC event took place at sunset, the night of January 24th  through the sunup of the 25th.  Each year the PIT and HIC happen within the last 10 days of January to capture what situations people are experiencing during some of the worst weather of the season and when personal resources can be at their lowest.

What project types are included in the Sheltered PIT and HIC Count?

Sheltered Point in Time (PIT):

  • Emergency Shelter (ES)
  • Safe Haven (SH)
  • Transitional Housing (TH)

Housing Inventory Count (HIC):

  • Emergency Shelter (ES)
  • Safe Haven (SH)
  • Transitional Housing (TH)
  • Rapid Rehousing (RRH)
  • Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH)
  • Other permanent housing projects (OPH)

How do we prepare for the Sheltered PIT, HIC, and Unsheltered PIT Count?
Each year, ICA will ask agencies to submit information through two different online portals, one for sheltered and one for unsheltered. We will release the portal along with pre-recorded training videos to watch at your convenience.

How can you help?

If you would like to help with the unsheltered count by volunteering to interview participants in your local area, contact Karla McClaren at karla.mcclaren@wyo.gov for more information.
